Misha Collins gives good…

savecastiel:

… interview.

Lordy, does he give good interview.

And it has to be said, Maureen Ryan of the Huffington Post - despite interruptions - knows how to coax it out of him with deceptive ease.

Yesterday the brilliant Mo (whose weekly SPN episode wraps are very much missed) posted an interview with Misha, conducted at the bi-annual Television Critics Association party on 29 July, the questions focused on “what fans can expect from his character in Season 8”…

… and let us pause for a brief moment to squee loudly and thank Pedowitz, Carver and Co for bringing the winged wonder back…

… “which is under the creative leadership of new showrunner Jeremy Carver”…

And at the risk of the glee being miscontrued (they who shall, will, eh?!)…

“In short: We’ll see Cas pretty frequently, in the first part of the season anyway…”

“… and this fall there’s more of an emphasis on the angel’s relationship with the Winchester brothers, especially Dean.”

Okay, such is the awesomeness of this interview, we may run out of gifs… or bring Tumblr down. So let’s skip a few beats and focus on the meaty stuff.

So to speak.

According to info provided by Carver “the writers are currently working on episode 9, and that Castiel regularly appears in the first batch of episodes (though he didn’t put a precise number on Cas’ appearances)”.

Interestingly, in another interview elsewhere, the grand pooh bah of The CW, Mark Pedowitz, has stated that Castiel will be in a minimum of 8 episodes.

Now, we’re not math geniuses by any means, but if they’ve written up to episode 9, and there are roughly 11 episodes in the first half of a season, it’s not unreasonable to hope that most (if not all) of those Castiel-inclusive-episodes may fall in the first half of the season. And that means there is a lotta scope for more Castiel in Seaosn 8 with a whole second half of a season yet to be planned and/or written.

Dare we hope?

But even if that “minimum of 8” Pedowitz spoke of is currently across the whole season, with 20+ eps, there is definitely scope for more Castiel.

Could you handle it?

Yeah, we thought so.

(Sidebar: It should be said… don’t get us wrong, 8 episodes is freakin’ awesome - particularly compared to the Castiel-lightness of Season 7!. But the fact is, for many of us, there can never be too much Cas. :) )

So for now, let’s go back to a key point of this interview.

No, not the bit where Misha talks about cockles and pornography. *g* Focus, people. *g*

The bit where he said “We’ll see Cas pretty frequently, in the first part of the season anyway.”

This is good news.

But you know what would be even better news? With a season that is 20+ episodes long, that has a natural (due to pre-empts/breaks) 2-part schedule, the most awesome news would be to know that Cas will be back for the second part as well.

All indications are that, while an overall approach to the season has been crafted, the scripts have not been written. And certainly Misha has said he hasn’t seen anything beyond those that show Castiel in Purgatory.

So the time is ripe.

The time is now.

The time to put your pen to paper, your fingers to your keyboards and send a message - or two, or three or more - to those who wield the power over Castiel’s life and longevity and communicate just how thrilled you are Castiel is back for Season 8, how thrilled you are that his story is being given due consideration and a measure of importance, and how much you hope, hope, hope that the rest of Season 8 - and beyond - may hold a place for Cas.

Do it now, folks. Write. The addresses - including email and (where available) Twitter details (though don’t spam!) are available on the Save Castiel website. You can also find some of them below:

Now, given the awesomeness of the interview (and it you haven’t read it yet, go read it now - and add your own comments to the comments section!), it only appropriate we end on a similar note we started with:

Maureen: Cas and Dean. They’re a continual source of speculation, fan fiction, pornography……

Misha: Yep. I’m just always gratified that I’m in some small way contributing to any kind of pornography. It warms the cockles of my heart. Words chosen carefully.

Well played, indeed, sir. You really do give good interview.
